A candle is a small ritual, and a little care goes a long way. With a few simple habits, your Betty Blu candle will burn cleaner, last longer, and fill the room the way it was meant to.
Let the first burn be a long one. The first time you light your candle, give it two to three hours, long enough for the melted wax to reach the full edge of the vessel. Candles have a memory, and that first even pool helps prevent tunneling, so the whole candle burns down beautifully instead of leaving wax along the sides.
Trim the wick before every light. Keep the wick trimmed to about a quarter inch. A tidy wick means a steadier flame, less soot, and a cleaner, more even burn. If you ever see the flame flickering or growing tall, blow it out, trim, and relight.
Burn in gentle stretches. Three to four hours at a time is the sweet spot. Any longer and the wax can overheat and the wick can drift. Let the candle rest and cool fully before you light it again.
Give it a calm spot. Keep your candle away from drafts, fans, and open windows, which can make it burn unevenly. Always set it on a level, heat-safe surface, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
Know when to say goodbye. When about half an inch of wax remains, it is time to retire the candle. Burning past that point can overheat the vessel.
Keep the vessel. Once your candle is finished, a little warm soapy water lifts away the last of the wax. The jar makes a lovely little home for cotton rounds, trinkets, or a few fresh stems.
Small habits, more joy. That is the whole idea.
